Move to Morocco, and bring your work with you
You want to live in Morocco without starting over. The paperwork gets done. What people usually lose on the way is the business: the clients, the visibility, the rhythm. We help you prepare both, in the right order.
In plain words
You dream of living in Morocco, but you’re afraid of losing your clients.
- You arrive with a business that keeps running.
- Local clients find you, without starting over.
- You live where you want, with peace of mind.
Before you pack
The real question isn’t where to live
It’s what you will live on, and who you will work with once you’re there.
Most people moving to Morocco sort out the flat first, then residency, then the bank. The business comes last. That is usually where it breaks: clients back home drift away, local clients don’t know you yet, and you end up alone with ten priorities and no clear one.
We start from the other end. What you do well, and for whom. Where those clients are: in Europe, in Morocco, elsewhere. Then what needs to exist so they can find you, wherever you happen to be.
You don’t need a perfect plan. You need to know what comes first.
The steps, in order
Six things to sort out, without getting lost
Rules depend on your nationality, your situation and your line of work. What follows is an overview, not legal advice. Check every point with a qualified accountant or lawyer.
Residency
Depending on your passport, you may be able to enter without a visa for a short stay. Staying longer generally means applying for a residence permit. Conditions and paperwork should be checked at the time you plan your move.
Structure
Keep your company at home, set one up in Morocco, or both. The right answer depends on where your clients are and where you live. In Morocco, setting up involves reserving a company name and registering. Regional public one-stop offices guide new founders.
Banking
Opening an account usually requires ID, proof of address and, for a company, its articles. Accounts for non-residents exist. Requirements vary from bank to bank.
Housing
Many people rent first while they get to know the neighbourhoods. The lease often doubles as proof of address for other steps, so it is worth signing it before the bank or the residency file.
Tax
Tax residency is not only about where you sleep. Morocco has tax treaties with a number of countries, including France and the UK. This is the most technical part: have a professional review it before you decide.
Your business
This is the part we handle with you: who your clients are, how they find you, how enquiries come in and get followed up. It is prepared before the move, not after.
What we do, what we don’t
We don’t do legal work. We point you to people who do.
We are not lawyers or accountants. We don’t draft company articles or file residency applications. For that, we work with professionals based in Morocco and introduce you when it helps.
What we do ourselves: get clear on what you sell and to whom, build a website designed to be found for the searches in your field, set up your Google Business Profile, handle enquiries through WhatsApp and keep track of them. So clients find you whether you are in Marrakech, London or somewhere in between.
If your plan doesn’t hold up, we tell you. Even when that isn’t what we’d like to say.
An outside view
A first conversation to lay things out: your field, your current clients, what you want to keep and what you want to change.
A base in Marrakech
A space where we meet, a studio to record in, partners on the ground. You don’t arrive alone.
Work that follows you
Website, Google profile, qualified enquiries, follow-ups, a dashboard. What keeps the business running, wherever you live.
Who this is for
For people who are good at what they do, and want to live somewhere else
You know your craft. Consultant, therapist, developer, designer, photographer, trainer. You left a salaried job for freedom, and now you carry everything on your own in the evenings. Morocco keeps coming back: the light, the pace, sometimes family, the cost of living too.
You are not looking for someone to sell you a dream. You want someone who knows the ground, tells you what works and what doesn’t, and is still around after you land.
Questions
What people ask us.
Can I live in Morocco and keep working for clients abroad?
Yes, many independents do. The real questions are legal and tax ones: where your company is, where you are resident, where you declare income. Get your situation checked by an accountant before you move. Our side is making sure your clients keep finding you and getting in touch.
Do I need a Moroccan company to work in Morocco?
Not always. It depends on your clients, your residency and your activity. Some keep their company at home, some set up in Morocco, some do both. A lawyer or accountant will tell you what applies to you.
Where do I start when moving to Morocco?
With the business. Knowing what you will live on and who your clients will be makes every other decision easier: city, structure, housing. Then residency, housing, banking and tax, each checked with a professional.
Why Marrakech?
Because we are here and know the ground. The city draws founders and freelancers from many countries, has good links to Europe, and there is real local demand in several fields. It isn’t right for everyone, and we’ll say so.
How do I open a bank account in Morocco?
Banks usually ask for ID and proof of address, plus company documents if you trade through a company. Non-resident accounts exist. Requirements differ between banks, so check with them directly.
Where will I pay tax if I move to Morocco?
It depends on your tax residency, which is decided on several criteria, and on the treaty between Morocco and your home country. Work it out with an accountant or tax lawyer before you move.
